Programme Insight

This is the first ever such programme that incorporates the five disciplines of the Meeting Industry. The programme draws industry experst under one roof for the betterment of the Meeting Industry.

This intensive programme incorporates a multitude of fundamental elements essential to successfully organising and running a professional conference, congress, convention, incentive or exhibition. Below is a brief example of the programme content:-

Day 1 - Evolution of the Travel & Tourism Industry

The programme will start by looking at the evolution of the travel and tourism industry. The afternoon session will tackle international case studies on incentive travel, eco-tourism and sports programmes. This will be followed by a workshop and presentation on incentive travel.

Day 2 - Congresses & Meetings

The programme will explain how to put a bid together from origination to completion. Key winning factors in the bidding process will be highlighted and analysed whilst three successful international case studies will be scrutinised. A workshop and presentation will address marketing, public relations and sponsorship issues prior, during and post events.

Day 3 - Event Management

This day will primarily look at sports event management. Case studies include the Malaysian Commonwealth Games Experience; how sponsorship was obtained, broadcasting rights and ambush marketing and the Malaysian F1 Grand Prix; marketing, economic value and security management. The programme shall also address how The World Masters Track and Field event was both won and lost. In the afternoon session the programme shall address the development of new events in Asia such as the KL Show Jumping Grand Prix.

Day 4 - Exhibitions

Day three will address the key ingredients required to successfully market an exhibition. This will encompass the financial planning, cash flow and marketing of the event. The speakers will highlight the strategic co-operation in the exhibition industry between exhibition centres, PCO's, PEO's and airlines. Furthermore, seminars on how to control construction costs and achieve the desired design structure in a limited space will be discussed in detail. The day will close with a presentation and workshop on winning formulas to combine a conference and exhibition.

Day 5 - Convention Bureaus

This day defines the role and function of a convention bureau and explains how they are effectively funded. It will tackle developing a budget to suit monetary constraints and evaluate risk assessment and contingency planning. Some international case studies will look at how successful convention bureaus were created. In addition, a workshop and presentation will underline the key factors a city must boast in order to be considered a contender as a winning bidding city.

Day 6 - Leadership in the Meeting Industry, Technology, Human Resources & Presentations

"As we move ahead into this century, leaders will be those that empower others" Bill Gates, Chairman of Microsoft Corp. This session will examine the 18 indispensable qualities of leadership and how they apply to the meeting industry. The art of communication will be tackled in an hour-long session followed by the role technology plays in the meeting industry. This session will be followed by individual and group presentations throughout the afternoon period
